How To Host A Seminar
In this post, I’ll go through what you need / how to host a seminar using the silent disco app.
The app allows you to skip loud speaker equipment use and allow all the participants (up to 250) to listen to speakers via their own headphones and smart phones. All by simply scanning a QR code!
Seminar event space specifics
To make sure your event space is ready, you’ll need to make sure that the WIFI connection there is adequate.
Check out this post about setting up and event space WIFI network: How to setup WIFI for an event
If you are in a good signal area, allowing users to connect via mobile data would also be sufficient.
Basically, you need a minimum upload speed or about 10 Mbps.
There are obviously a lot of non-tech things you’ll need for your event, but in this post we won’t go into it.
Step 1: Download the app
As a host, you’ll do all the work through the app.
All of your users can join via the app or via the web player (no app download required)
Step 2: Log in or register through the app
Click the menu icon and then click on the profile block.
Then you’ll see an option to sign in or register. If you don’t have a free account, click on the register button and fill out the small form. If you do have an account, click the sign in button and sign in.
Forgotten your password: No problem, just reset it via the forgotten password page via the website.
You’ll now see your profile page.

Step 3: Create a seminar (microphone only) event
At the top of the screen, click on the “+ NEW PARTY” button.
Select a title and click “SAVE TITLE“.
If you want to change the name later, you can. You just have to do it before you start the event.

In this guide, we’ll use the free event level. This allows you to have a 30 minute microphone only event.
If you want a longer walking tour (up to 12 hours) then you’ll have to select a paid option.
You can always go back and upgrade to a paid event later.
NOTE: Paid events allow you to customize the background, room colors, fonts and even add a logo.

Fill in the event details, and select the MICROPHONE ONLY event type.
Lastly, click SAVE EVENT.

When its time to host your seminar, head back to the app and click on the START PARTY button.
Once it starts, you’ll have the JOIN PARTY button to click. This will take you to the event screen.
You are the host, so your app screen will look different compared to the users listening. You’ll see a button on the screen with a microphone icon.
Click it once to activate your microphone. Once active (shown by a green dot above the icon) you’ll be able to speak into your phones microphone / Bluetooth / wired microphone and this will get sent out to everyone listening.
Click it again to turn off you microphone.
IMPORTANT: You need to keep the phone awake for everything to keep working. The app will stay awake (this is added as functionality) so to make sure no buttons accidently get pressed, there is a “lock screen” function on the right. Just slide the key over the lock!
NOTE: As the host, you will not hear sound coming out of your device.
The users can open the app or go directly to the event via the web player. Once they join, they will see a play button.
Users will click that play button and they will start hearing the host’s voice. Pressing the pause button will stop it.
QR Code: This will link directly to the event via the web player

As a user on the web player, there will be a small speaker icon that shows the voice level coming through.
NOTE: If the speaker icon doesn’t change, there might be an issue. Reload the page to try again.
Conclusion
That’s it for the guide on how you can host your own seminar event.
Free events work the same as the paid events, the only difference is adverts, the design aspect and the length of the event.
